There is this certain game I have wanted to play since I was a teenager: A modern wargame that is detailed enough to let you command different kinds of units with their own characteristics, but still simple enough to be fun and interesting for anyone. A game that is not tied to a specific historical event, but rather a universal war game with modular or interchangeable game boards and different optional units (game pieces), letting you adjust complexity and giving you endless possibilities to play different scenarios.

I decided a long time ago that I’m going to create that game myself. With a keen interest in military science, and as an active reservist in the Finnish Defense Forces (with the rank of lieutenant, and training both as a coastal jaeger, and in reconnaissance) I felt that I have the basic understanding of the subject needed to create a convincing game. Through my masters studies in financial economics I also acquired lots of useful knowledge about statistics and probability for developing balanced game dynamics and simulating possible outcomes.

Years went by, with studies, work, and family, but the game continued to develop in my mind, on paper, and eventually also as a physical playable prototype. I’ve given it the not-so-unique name Armed Conflict.

Prototype of the game Armed Conflict

After playing the prototype together with friends, we realized that this game has a potential to catch the interest of other gamers as well. Therefore we are now working on publishing Armed Conflict, most likely with a crowdfunding on Gamefound.

Currently we are doing some intense playtesting to polish the details in the rules. I’m also finalizing the artwork needed for a nicer prototype that we can lend out to external playtesters. When we start wider external playtesting we will update about it here. If you happen to be a board game influencer and have a follower base who might be interested in this game, we are happy to send the game to you for some playtesting and a review.

Some general information about the game is collected under Armed Conflict in a Nutshell.

Let us know in the comments section if any questions or thoughts came to your mind. We are happy to receive feedback on what kind of elements you would wish for in such a game, and what to avoid.

More updates about the progress will follow soon.
